Time for yet another installment of "G5 meets G4 in the future." I conceived this idea just last week during my last drawing session. The G5 cast encountering characters, locations, or even objects from G4 is a fun and interesting idea, and it's intriguing to think about what certain characters have been up to since the end of FIM. I enjoy taking certain elements from G4 and weaving them into G5 in ways that don't feel too forced considering that the two generations take place in the same universe. You obviously cannot tell what is happening just on the passage alone, so for a bit of context, Sprout's mother Phyllis becomes stricken with a mysterious but dreadful illness, and the only way to cure her is with a medicine made from the long-forgotten and elusive zap apples. Determined to cure his mother, Sprout sets off on his own to find the zap apples, but his efforts prove to be rather (No pun intended) fruitless. That is until he just so happens to wander onto a certain family farm, where he meets a now elderly and reclusive Applebloom. After convincing her to help him find the apples, she becomes a wise old mentor of sorts for him; Training him in the ways of farming, agriculture, and getting in touch with his Earth Pony roots. And because she is still a Cutiemark Crusader through and through, despite her age, she also helps him discover the true meaning of his cutiemark. It was an interesting idea that I wanted to explore. There's definitely going to be more moments with these two in the coming future. :)
