All glory to "Darkcat 613":https://www.furaffinity.net/user/darkcat613/
But the armored caribou was not touched by either the x-ray squall or the plasma. His armor seemed to absorb energy.
However, Infantrymen did not care about this.
Ortega and three troops jumped, stretching out along the chain of shackled equas. The sergeant landed right in front of the "hero" at the last moment, maneuvering his engines, avoiding the slash of a sword. The same shiny and showy as the armor of the caribou.
Which tried to reach Ortega again, but the sergeant was faster, once again dodging and hitting razer's forearm on the blade's side. The caribou lost a fraction of a second on this, which was enough for the old soldier to stab him in the neck with a bayonet.
The vibroknife howled briefly, turning the surrounding flesh into mush and cutting the vertebral column like a rotten stick.
The "Hero" died on the spot, collapsing like a bag.
Soldiers accompanying the sergeant gave a couple of short bursts to the city guard patrol who appeared on the street, sending them to Faust, and combined the force fields with Ortega, covering the shackled. On the other side of the street, four infantrymen also deployed a collective shield, covering the rescue team.
A series of muffled pops rang out over the street as smoke grenades launched, hiding everything that was happening in a thick gray veil. However, for the visors of humans and rebel equas, equipped with the same Earth armor, this was not a hindrance.
Under the cover of the shock team and smokes, thrity equas, a medic and an engineer ran up to the chained rebels, who had been so unsuccessfully caught earlier and had been so happily delivered to Applusa at the time of the attack. The specialist braked closer to the tail of the chain with a roll, throwing out his hand with the MPT in the direction of the shackled.
Force fields, driven by the union of will and quantum components, were projected onto chains, shackle pins, collars, cutting through forged metal like oil. It took Simonov a fraction of a second to release one equa, and he switched to the next, working like an automaton.
The underground mares from the Applusa cell did not have the experience and speed of the engineer, but there were more of them. Where Simonov managed to unchain five, equas release ten, pulling them to their feet and supporting exhausted prisoners.
Liberated, deafened by the shooting, blinded in the smoke, grabbed at the silhouettes that called out with the ringing voices of their comrades. They clung with a desperate grip to the sleeves and shoulders of armored jumpsuits, groping their way out of the smoke. The medic was moving among the released, injecting painkillers and stimulants so that the equas, tormented and exhausted in captivity, could give at least some speed on the march.
