{Before The Fall}
It was a late night back from a dinner party with the higher class, but Ev’s mind was pulsing with new determination. Ev was only 15, but all her life she had been possessed by one consuming hunt. It was her very reason to live for you see, when she was a much younger filly, little Ev was stunned by the idea of magic. She lived in a magical world with a brother so gifted in the area, and the Crystal Empire had magic pulsing through it. Every rock, every blade of grass, the paths, the auroras, the very heart of the Empire, all filled with magic. Yet Ev was not, for she was a mere pegasus and nothing more. For all her life, since she first saw the Crystal Heart be powered, Ev was driven to obtain magic for herself. She would spend her days in her office, only attending parties if her appearance be necessary. In a world where the impossible did not exist, the young filly became obsessed. Ev couldn’t exactly go to magic school for it was strictly for unicorns, so instead she’d study how her brother performed magic and often steal his text books to learn more and more.
At the dinner party of this particular night, Ev announced what she had been conducting and what her theories of magic were. Naturally, she and her obsession were shunned, being labelled as a profanity, an act against the natural laws.
“It’s late, sister. Go to bed, please,” spoke Sombra softly as he entered Ev’s office. Ev quickly shifted her attention from her scrolls filled with spells.
“No no, you heard them tonight,” started the young mare as she walked away from her desk, “I need to know why we, non-magical beings, are doomed not to reach our full potential. Why we are made less than what we should. Why we cannot cheat at life like all of you magical beings! I need to know the nature of the magic you possess. Then I must obtain it for myself, even if it is utter blasphemy.” “Ev! I won’t hear anymore of it! All this madness is making you take leave of your senses. Go to bed and you will think more clearly in the morning.”
Ev breathed sighed at her brothers words, before flashing a smile at him. “You’re right, I’m sorry I got all worked up. Goodnight.”
