Description:

So I go on Netflix and come across a movie called Unicorn Store. ‘that sounds cute’ (I thought to myself) ‘let me just check IMDB really quick to see the score’. From then on I get bombarded with negative reviews, half of which seem to be more focused on Captain Marvel then this film. But whatever, I put that aside, I want to judge this film on its own.

So in short I saw the whole film and I liked it. For me is wasn’t the kind of comedy that made me slap my knee because I was bursting out laughing so hard (except kinda on two occasions), this is the kind of humor that made me do a double take on what weird things a characters just said, snickering a bit in disbelief. To be fair, it’s kinda a weird movie. I think Brie Larson did a great job both in front of and behind the camera (this was her directorial debut). Samuel L. Jackson, Brie’s Captain Marvel co-star seems to be her cinematic guide and he did a good job, providing some good comedy while he’s dressed as a unicorn, giving the milleninial slacker Larson who has parental issues and fears growing up. As she falls in love with a guy in a hardware store while getting him to fix up her stable, and this movie goes on some Disney-esque modern fairy tale of this young woman trying to accomplish her dreams. This movie is apparently being bombed by the alpha male trolls who are so manly they take offense that Brie Larson showed a women can do anything a man can do on and off screen. Captain Marvel showed a women can go high, further, and faster than a man. What kind of man takes offense to that? Probably not a very tough one. I came to this movie to see what else Brie Larson could do. And aside from winning an Oscar and earning big box office gold while starring in Captain Marvel and being in Avengers: Endgame, she’s without a doubt now one of the biggest actresses of the year and in the past few years. Most of these reviews don’t get what this movie is. It isn’t meant to be taken seriously. It’s fun, it’s quirky and it’s different. And I love it. I love Brie Larson and I love the movie she’s built from her childhood and from the childlike wonder of dreams. Very cute, and at times touching. Really good movie, check it out! I truly reccommend it!
