Artist’s description, from 2014 on Deviantart:
So to better promote the coins I’m hoping to have produced, here is the first batch of coins I’ve designed for both minting AND for my headcanon book.Peoples, this here is how I see the Standard Bit of Equestrian Currency. This batch is the only one I’ll reveal here and on tumblr. The rest of the coins can be seen on my Patreon if you’re a patron.
But yeah, the headcanon:
As said in the previous post I did for the currency, Equestrian currency is based off of the US currency system. So that means that 1 Bit= $1 USD. They also have a coin system that acts as the “cents” of their currency, which are called Short Bits, which are short and small rectangular coins (aside from the half bit, which is odd in shape). The larger-valued bits are called Long Bits, appropriately called such because they are long and oval in shape. Also, the Bit Sign would look like this:
Anyway, Standard Bits. These coins all share the common theme of having a national symbol of Equestria, which are arranged as such from left to right:
The National Animal (The pheonix)
The National Flower (Celestial Lily)
The Equestrian Flag
The Seal of Equestria (which holds the nation’s national bird: the pheonix. The one on the left is the fire pheonix, while the one on the right is the ice pheonix)As seen in the image, the first two coins are one-toned while the other two are two-toned, and their values can be seen on the backs of the coin (which is obviously shown on the bottom). However, the horseshoe that is on the back of the coin actually represents the unity of Equestria underneath Celestia’s and Luna’s rule, symbolized with a stylized mashup of their cutie marks and a horseshoe that has Twi’s cutie mark in it.
