Description:
Next up is AJ’s race! Rarity’s will come later, once we figure out a name for the race. o3oOne of the largest sapient alien race in the galaxy, the Dhov’re are best known for their massive height and equally massive strength. This species sport four fully versatile arms, each with hand that sports three clawed fingers, thick and powerful legs with three digits on the feet, and a long, broad sturdy tail. Atop their heads are a pair of ears, horns, and a thick wiry mane that tends to track down the creature’s back to the base of the tail. This species don’t have scales but they have very thick armored skin with a plated chest and belly for extra protection. There is no obvious sexual dimorphism in this species. The hardiest race in the galaxy, they are notorious for being difficult to kill.
Which makes the galaxy all the more lucky that, despite their massive size, the Dhov’re are typically… not exactly gentle, but amiable giants. This particularly comes from a long life span (1000 years) and a long spanning history of back-to-back wars until their planet was nearly devastated by the constant onslought of violence and swiftly depleting natural resources to fuel the wars. The conflict that nearly drove this species into destroying their planet (and themselves in the process) has shaped the culture into finding the value of protecting their planet’s natural ecosystem, appreciating life to the fullest, and finding alternative ways to outlet their aggression to prevent killing unnecessarily.
This has formed in a monthly event called the Ghnynsá, in which anyone of any age that has any sort of conflict with anyone enter intense combat with their opponent with the explicit rule that killing and the intent to main is not allowed. Those who break this rule while participating in the event are severely punished. This event is meant to allow any hard or hostile feelings to vent in violent, short bursts, so than when it is over all that remains is a feeling of acceptance and tranquility. It is a surprisingly effective method for the race: they haven’t had war amongst any of their people for more than a few hundred years.
The Dhov’re have found other safe ways to expell their natural aggression as well: sports, sparring (sparring is a huge thing in their culture and is seen as a sign of respect if someone wants to spar with you), stone carving (which in their culture is usually done using their bare hands and claws), even volunteering militant services for other races. A general stereotype with this race is that with their brawn is the lack of brains, that they are little more than leashed animals, and may be regarded with fear and suspiscion.
Typically known to have a variety of accents, but the most common is a thick, almost sluggish pronunciation.
