Mulberry walks to the back office and gives a knock on the door.
The writing stops, and after a second a deep, scratchy voice says, “Come in.”
From the entrance there is a nice red rug leading up to a mahogany desk. The desk is flanked on both sides by bookshelves, and on the back wall there are certificates and diplomas from various institutions.
Sitting behind the desk is an old gryphon. He is quite large, and even in his age he looks quite bulky and strong. His coloring reminds Mulberry of an osprey. His wings and fur are dark browns and blacks, while his tuft of feathers and his head are mostly white. The mayor also takes good care of himself. His feathers are well preened and straight, and his fancy gold-lined cloak and hat are well cared for.
Unfortunately, his presentation is ruined slightly by one of the more prominent features on his face. The gryphon has an extremely amblyopic right eye, and worse still, it looks like he can’t see out of it at all, as it’s rather unfocused and milky colored.
When the gryphon, who had been writing something at his desk, sees the mare he smiles and says, “Oh! Greetings young miss. I am Mayor Goldenclaw, but you can call me Gamble if you wish.”
He stands up and grabs a cane. He then hobbles around the side of his desk and says, “I would say welcome and please enjoy Mournthread but… Well, I’m sure you’ve seen the fog. Nasty business, isn’t it?”
