Description:
Roses are red, violets are blue, the spirit of mirth has a party for you.By nature, all draconeqi are two sided. They each have two callings, two magical leanings that tug them in different directions. Discord is a harmless prankster most of the time, but he is a cataclysm unto himself when unbound. Fluttershy is a compassionate, gentle soul. But nature can be cruel. She struggles with her new, wilder instincts constantly, fighting to stay the same person she’s always been.
Pinkie sees no need to do this.
After one doozy of an ascension, Pinky Pie has become the spirit of mirth… and madness. She’s always there in your hour of need, ready to cheer you up. With a party, a joke, a hug, a stiff drink, whatever works. But there can be a thin line between revelry and insanity. There’s always a line, with draconequus magic. Fluttershy tries not to cross it at any costs. Discord sometimes slips over it by accident, but does seem to be trying. Pinkie… doesn’t seem to know where the line is sometimes.
Fortunately though, that doesn’t happen too often. Most of the time, Pinkie is her usual happy self, proud to serve as the world’s chubbiest chaos noodle.
I’ve been going with a vague greek god theme for the mane six, so it made sense that pinkie would be the equivalent of Dionysus/Pan, albeit with slightly less alcohol. As the deity of parties, laughter, revelry, good cheer, ect. it seemed appropriate. But the cool thing about Dionysus is that as much as he’s seen as the god of drunk parties, there are older interpretations of him as a bringer of madness and delusion. If you want some context, go watch Overly Sarcastic Productions’ awesome Youtube video on the mythology: youtu.be/5brAr51ip_k It’s great, and I got a lot of inspiration from it. It’s obviously not a one to one match, but it still helps set the mood, and it’s fascinating.
Design wise, I kinda only gave Pinkie elements from like, four different creatures? I was intending for her to be a lot more mixed up and chaotic, but nothing was working right. That’s one of the reasons she took so long. So I decided to boil it down to a few basic elements. There’s a few pony bits, obviously. I wanted her to be really fluffy, and she has a strong conection to the yaks in cannon, so I gave her yak horns and long fur. I also wanted something… less cuddly… to help illustrate the whole dual-nature thing. Gummy came to mind. And finally, I wanted emotion and something similar to changeling magic to play a big role in how she ascends. So she gets shiny changeling bits too.
