Page 1098 – Under Encumbrance

Found it interesting during the screencapping phase how Applejack seems to be smiling during a lot of these scenes. Putting aside my own spin on it for a second (and just focusing on the character of Applejack in the show), that could be a subtle detail that she is even denying to herself that things are going wrong, suppressing her negative observations. She laughs more easily throughout the episode, too, I think.

I guess denial is also bliss, alongside ignorance.

Applejack: Heh heh heh.

Twilight Sparkle: Are you enjoying this, Applejack?

Applejack: Nope, not one bit.

Rarity: Oh, the authorities I’m going to buy off with you…

Applejack: We pro’ly don’t need to do anythin’.

Twilight Sparkle: Are you still up for defeating Discord, or…?

Rarity: Of course I am! But if you think I’m going to let this gem out of my sight, you’ve got another thing coming!

Applejack: Just curious… Do we get a cut of this “gem”?

Twilight Sparkle: You know it’s–!

Applejack: Ah’m askin’ fer science! Or maybe art.

Rarity: Ugh, yes, fine, you’ll each earn a small fee if you help me escape with this alive. But I need the majority of it for… projects!

DM: This “diamond” is quite heavy anyway.

Rarity: I’ll carry it myself!

Twilight Sparkle: Am I the only one who’s worried about this??
