Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Vanitas and his keyblade Void Gear.

This is a commissioned request of a series of ongoing Kingdom Hearts custom pony art figures. This is #2 out of 5 requests so far, but once these are all done, there will be more (there’ll be a shift where I start crafting more of the KH gals)

Pony base is a engineered pose from 2 different generation 3 ponies. (different head, different body). Base had a layer of white gesso prepped, so that the acrylic paint work would have a texture to bond to. Full body repaint in flesh tone acrylics for the head, and the body actually got intricate layers of hemp cord glued in place before I painted. After the string details were added, I painted over everything in black acrylics. Layered charcoal and various reds as well. Sealed head and body in Testors dullcoat sealer, but I had to paint over the body a second time after the sealing.

Mane and tail are rooted in nylon mlp dollyhair in the colors black magick and pacific ocean. Mane is permanently styled/hardened with hair gel method.

Boots are faux vinyl with the detail painted on, I then sprayed Testors sealer on the boots after painting. Added detailed ribbon trim at the tops, thick black leather on the soles and lined the soles with a thin black faux vinyl.

His skirt thingy is layered in this faux red and black vinyls. His belts are dark red bias tape lined with thin strips of bright red plastic cords. His belt buckle is shaped from 2 different types of silver wires, smaller buckle is a metal pendant.

His face mask is cut from faux silver vinyl, and it’s glued to a layer of transparent plastic to give it shape. Rectangular metallic bead fastened at the front under the chin.

Keyblade- first off, these things are CRAZY CHALLENGES. Everytime. They’ll never turn out the same. Most of the time they have to be crafted larger than the pony just in order for me to have any materials at all to complete the job. I had to run to the store 3-5 different times as I came across different details. These things are real beasts, I tell ya! But I love them all the same.

So to simplify this, it started out as a wooden disc (where the top eye is) and then a long bead for the hilt, with both a wooden dowel and a toothpick glued inside it to hold the 2 metallic beads I painted blue. Black hilt wings were cut from 4 pieces of thick black leather and have painted detail. Flat silver wire detail added at the bottom. Handle is 2 large layers cut from transparent plastic, painted black and red. 4 silver rhinestones detail the outside, attached a black chain with divided cog at the end and gold star sequin details.

The main body is constructed from a base of thick black belt leather, 2 metallic wing pendants (all painted in charcoal and then silver) with long flat silver wire going down the middle in 2 layers. Black chain wrapped around. Then some more thick black leather for the lower part, with a golden medium sized cog placed in the middle. Leather is painted, with black hemp cord detail and some more flat silver wire detail. Key piece is a giant cog with thin wooden dowels attacked to 2 layers of painted transparent plastic. All of it is painted, 2 red rhinestones detail. The 2 blue eyeballs are plastic oval stones that are painted. All paint work on this piece is sealed in mod podge.
