Description:
Let’s have something that we haven’t had for a while.
I have a separate backlog to the request pile of canons by my awesome friend, and I’ve been meaning to paint at least one of his things for a while… This was written and sent to me nine months ago. XD
Mirror Mirror was never going to be a normal pony.
She was obsessed with stories of the fantastic, even by the standards of magical, multi-colored ponies. She wanted to learn more about the things that were considered impossible; magic without the rules and limitations of ponies, ways to see beyond what was considered ‘real’, things that everypony called her insane for being fascinated with. She ignored them, scouring everywhere and anywhere to find something that could prove what she was believing was possible, even if it was just in her own mind.
It took years out of her life, to the point that even she acknowledged her obsession (without letting it go), but she eventually found something that she felt was her answer.
In a dark alleyway, meeting with a pony who looked like he had been flirting with death for years, she was given what he claimed was an honest to Celestia magic mirror. She was dubious at first, having retained a healthy amount of skepticism after countless jokes and failures, but he wasn’t going to take ‘no’ for an answer and arranged a test of the mirror’s power. He showed her the trick to using it, holding it at whatever you wished to see, then looking at it yourself, which would grant you the ability to see a moment in the future of whatever you had held the mirror up to.
in this case, it was a passing stallion; and the mirror showed him with a bloody nose and broken jaw. Sure enough, after a few hours of following him, they watched him get caught up in a bar brawl and end up the spitting image of his reflection as they’d seen it. Mirror Mirror paid the pony in full, just barely getting out a ‘thank you’ before he galloped off at full speed. It was only later that she understood why.
She developed a whole new obsession, staring into the mirror in hopes that she could see her own future. It never worked, but seeing how the ponies that she looked at always seemed to get hurt, she became very afraid; to the point of paranoia. Mirror Mirror honestly believes that the world (or, even worse, something in it) actively conspires to do harm to literally every pony with the intent to kill them. She eventually came to believe that her mirror was the one weapon she had against it, using it to see its actions before it took them and avoid them.
She still never travels anywhere without the precious mirror, considering it the one thing that keeps her safe, and still uses it to look at other ponies in hopes that somehow, she can learn to use it’s power more effectively and maybe even see her own future. Or to find the thing that made it in hopes that they have an answer for her.
