Artist’s Description
Pandie’s family celebrates her birthday on Nov 1, during the festival of The Dios de los Muertos or The Day of The Dead.
The Day of the dead is a Mexican festival that celebrates the life of the departed and welcomes their return back to the living world until the festivities are over and they return back to their slumber. The symbols of the Calavera (skull), Altars, marigolds (the flower of the dead) paper decor and sugar skulls runs deep with its roots. The Calavera Catrina, a prominent and important symbols with roots that date to the early 20th century is the inspiration for the makeup worn by those participating in the festival.
Pandie’s face is painted in a traditional make up to resemble the Calavera Catrina, with the nose painted to resemble more of a horses skull!
