Hey its that gorl. Yes I love the night princess and her story is the one I’ve put the most thought into.

    Princess Luna is not just the protector of the night, she’s also the guardian of the seas. The royal sisters were granted leadership over the three domains of their world, Earth Sky and Seas. Celestia, being the oldest and the stronger magical ability, took precedence over Land and Skies, Luna then choose the most vast empire, the seas. Throughout the seas were hundreds of cities. The ponies who dwelled there were the Seaponies (not the show’s verison), Mermares and Merponies. While their names are similar, the three tribes acted much like the Unicorns Pegasai and earthponies of the land. (I’ll go into the lore of each at another time). Luna not only had control over the creatures of the night, but she ruled over the ponies of the sea as well.     When she was in the processes of becoming Nightmare moon, Luna was not simply mad at the earth-dwelling ponies for sleeping through her night, the Ponies of the deep openly ignored her. The seaquestrians loved the warmth the sun gave and the brightness of the sky during the day. Luna’s night brought chill and darkness. Unwilling to adapt to the gorgeous and functional night before them, the seaquestrians began barricading themselves indoors at night and didn’t invent glowing spells till many centuries later. The pride of Seaquestrians was their ultimate downfall for not just them but Luna as well. A small group of seaquestrians from all tribes left the main cities to form a new colony, hidden deep in the depths of the sea where it was always night for them, a place where they could appreciate their princess openly. Luna, however, did not know of these ponies and only received hate and unkindness from all her subjects. This plus the earth-dwelling ponies all ignoring her, Celestia’s open denial of the issue and Luna’s own cold nature that turned ponies away made her become the dreaded Nightmare Moon.     Unlike the shows cannon, Nightmare Moon’s reign lasted a century. Luna’s anger was not something that could simply be destroyed in one blow. Celestia attempted to use the elements when her sister first turned but due to Celestia’s own faults, the elements did not work for her and Nightmare Moon locked her below canterlot in the cages of Tartarus. (Ill go into more detail about Nightmare Moon’s reign one day) Eventually, Tia was broken out by her friend, Starswirl, and the two went and took down Nightmare Moon. Ever since Luna reformed, she’s been left with traces of Nightmare moon, the bat wings, slit pupils, curved horn, and ruined cutiemark. For a while, she was very self conscious about it but since meeting Tidal Song, she’s had more confidence and has learned to love herself.

Luna’s Personality is similar to how it is on the show. Shes ill-accustomed to modern times and can be very cold. Her past experiences make her doubt everypony at first glance and she rules with an iron hoof. After dealing with so many evils, she has had to build up a hard exterior making many ponies afraid of her. When she’s with her family however, she’s super sarcastic and has a dark sense of humor. Her laugh is very contagious but it’s not often heard. She’s very stubborn and is often the “bad cop” so to speak when dealing with whether or not a creature belongs in Tartarus. Overall, she’s forgiven the ponies of the past, she’s forgiven Celestia but she still struggles to forgive herself. On the surface, she says shes over it, and is a very good actress, but deep down she’s terrified of herself.     Having foals was a shock to her. After Luna and Tidal married, she was pregnant only a year after. She fretted, internally and to Tidal, the whole time, fearing her dark magic might somehow seep into her children. The second Phorcys was born, however, all of her fears faded and she loved the bundle of joy more than anything she had ever loved before. A few years later, Brizo was born and Luna had never felt more complete.    

Her story was dark and full of hate but Princess Luna is one of the few characters to get a truly happy ending

So Princess Luna has a bit more depth now (haha that was an ocean pun). I have a lot more I want to say about her relationship with past and current Seaquestria (lol a current pun, Im on a roll) and how she met Tidal Song but I think Im gonna make that its own post. I also need to go into the Sequestria lore that I’ve had since I first made Oceandrip years ago. ALSO I really like the title, “Mare in the Moon” so Luna has adopted that into Mare of the Moon and goes by it as to appear more casual.
