Artist’s description from DA:
So this is just me playing around, so you’ll have to forgive a bit of wonkiness in the characters if they have some.Anywho, all three of these characters are G1, and I mainly drew them because they are, in my headcanon, mothers of three of the FIM characters. c: Eh, regarding G1 MLP… I remember watching it as a child, but it’s been YEARS since I’ve last seen it. So my knowledge of the original characters are very slim at best, but even then I remember them being quite… bland, in comparison to the characterization we have in FIM.
So! Their personalities and such may be a bit different from the original, but it’s all headcanon so whatevah. B3
On that note, fire the headcanons! D:<
-Posey, a rather small earth pony mare and the mother of Fluttershy. If I remember correctly, she acted quite a bit like lil’ ol’ Flutters, in that she was pretty shy and sometimes meek. But, I think she wouldn’t be nearly as shy as her daughter. She wouldn’t have that much trouble speaking her mind, but she’s more likely to simply let things unravel themselves than actually interfere unless she felt the need to. I’ve ultimately decided to have her mate be a pegasus stallion named Sunburst, a G4 canon very minor/background character I’ll eventually draw myself. o3o If you wanna see him, here he is:

Posey would be where Fluttershy gets her stronger desire to be closer to the ground than up in the sky, although any and every pegasus still retains the need and desire to fly. Posey would also be a very accomplished healer/doctor and would have a rather impressive amount of magic within her legs and hooves, which would have others playfully calling her “The mare with the magic hooves”.
-Firefly, A lean and rambunctious pegasus mare, and the mother of Rainbow Dash. Rainbow gets her very daredevil and brash attitude from her mother, especially the daredevil part. Unlike Rainbow though, I think Firefly might’ve been far more of a flirt, as well as being far more confident in her abilities than Rainbow is. She simply doesn’t give two fucks about what anyone thinks of her and was a little absorbed in herself (or maybe she’s just as dense as Rainbow. o.o), which in turn didn’t allow her to catch onto the ridiculously huge crush her then childhood friend Rainbow Strike (Rainbow’s father) had on her. She eventually caught on, though, since he’s just that much of a quiet sweetheart. c:
Unlike Rainbow, I see her having a bit more of a styled mane instead of just letting it go however it goes. Her wings are also smaller than her daughter’s, but that doesn’t hinder her from being a great flier.
-Twilight, or Twilight Velvet as she’s known in FIM, and the mother of Twilight Sparkle. Just like her daughter, Twilight Velvet is intelligent, punctual, and very organized, as well as friendly and helpful. She’s also where Twi gained her love for books and reading; Twilight Velvet loves to write stories, and is an accomplished author of textbooks and adventurous fictions. Infact, I have the headcanon that she was once a teacher before turning to her passion for writing. I also think she would make up her own impromptu stories when Twi or Shiny asked for a bedtime story as foals. Her mate is obviously Twi’s dad, who’s canon name is Nightlight if I’m not mistaken.
Obviously, this is where Twilight Sparkle gets a great majority of her physical appearance, aside from a few things. Unlike Twi, though, I see Velvet as being far more… ah… “primp”, unicorn classy/royal in comparison to her daughter’s more casual outlook and demeanor. Her mane and tail isn’t as wild as Twi’s, nor does she have the “classical unicorn” look aside from cloven hooves. Twilight Velvet doesn’t have unshorn fetlocks; they are very well trimmed at all times. The long fetlocks and lion-like tail her children have come from Nightlight. She’s also pretty short. The main thing that separate Twilight Velvet from Twilight Sparkle is that the mother is slightly more angular than her daughter, especially in the eyes. I wanted her eyes to almost appear cold and intimidatingly sharp at first glance, but the longer you look at them the warmer they seem (specifically, when she’s smiling), despite them being the iciest blue you’ll ever see. o3o
So there ya go. This is only the first part so I’ll end up drawing the last three mane 6’s mothers, then I’ll go on to draw the fathers. c:
