Applejack was never really one for relationships. She wasn’t interested in finding a stallion to settle down with, but seeing all her friends with their own foals soon made her long for having a foal of her own, so she decided that sperm donation was the best option and went to a fertility clinic in Canterlot to have it done. All her friends and family were very supportive of her decision, and 11 months later came the birth of Tarte Tatin: the very first unicorn born into the Apple Family.

Tarte was everything that Applejack had hoped for in a child, and loved every single minute of raising her. While Tarte was mostly okay with having a single mom growing up, she soon began to ask who her dad is. After asking the doctor who performed the procedure all those years ago, Applejack and Tarte discovered that the sperm donor was Donut Joe of all ponies, which probably explained Tarte’s interest in baking as well as her friendly and confident nature. Tarte’s mother took her to Canterlot to meet her father for the first time, and Joe and his family were ecstatic about meeting their new family member, telling her that she and her mother were more than welcome to come and visit anytime.

Tarte Tatin was very close to her Great-Granny Smith when she was younger, and was only five when she passed away due to old age. She is almost always seen wearing her old scarf, and unless you’re asking for a beating, it would be wise not to touch it. And much like her great-granny, she has a sharp wit and can be a little feisty sometimes.
