discord was looking around in the mines beneath canterlot when he ran across the aether/the reality stone he was unaware of what it was at first until he sensed its power, however discord quickly realized he had more power than the stone itself and had a thought along the lines of “wtf is this weak shit? i can do more than this on my own” however something compelled him to keep it…. so he did.
