Relatively old piece, from 2013.
Artist’s description from Deviantart:
Another preview for our MLP fanfic Requiem, this one being exclusively of some of our OCs. This time, it’s of our Warlock Moose character, Willow Bark, his mate Belle, and his three calves, Blaze, Starfire, and Erebos. c:Fun fact! In this AU, his foals recognize Twilight Sparkle as “Auntie Twily”. xD
So, a little bit of both the moose kin and the reindeer folk:
The deer species in general harbors magic just like the ponies, only they don’t have as much of a grasp on it. For the most part, their magic is channeled in their antlers and hooves, a mixture between alchemy and earth magic. The Reindeer are different in that the magic in their hooves and bodies is air-based, allowing them to fly despite lacking wings. C:
After a talk with Adalbertus, we have ourselves a country for them to originate from. The guy’s a genius, I swear. o3o So, we settled on the country being called Fawnland, a parody of Finland.
So, here’s a bit about Fawnland:
This country’s sentient inhabitants mostly comprises of deer species, although they have a few wolf-like Diamond Dogs around too.Their government’s a democracy, almost a direct one since there’s not too many moose/deer in that country. Most of the country is uninhabited cold wastelands.
They have long winter nights, white summer nights (it doesn’t get dark).
They tend to drink lots of coffee because of this and are pretty much addicted to it in general.
As a whole, the inhabitants of this country are tough, but also kinda depressed most of the time because of the cold and lack of the sunlight. They also are kinda shy when sober. They were once a bunch of tribes with little unity or government, and were often bullied by all of their neighbors (from the Elk lands for example) despite their relatively large size. Fawnlanders were powerful, though, and they fought back, until they eventually united and formed their current government.
It is tradition that every citizen of this land knows how to fight with brutal aggression, although the nation is pretty neutral and now remains on peaceful grounds to the other countries around them.
The Fawnlanders are very artistic, with breathtaking skill in woodwork, since most of their lands is…well… a huge snow-covered forest. xD
Now about the characters:
-Willow Bark: A large, graying moose buck with a love for the drink and coffee. This powerful creature is the second in command of Twilight’s group, and often acts as the voice of wisdom. Just don’t go drinking with the guy; he has a very high alcohol tolerance and will easily drink ya under the table. Willow bark, despite his rough exterior and thundering voice, has a gentleman’s heart, although he has a knack to tell you what’s what, no matter how rude it may seem. Despite the way he looks, he isn’t as old as you may think, although he IS a couple of years older than his mate. His oldest son is the product of his first marriage, which fell through because of his occupation, among other things. The last two are the product of his marriage with Belle.
-Belle: The mate of Willow Bark. She’s actually a reindeer instead of a moose female, so she’s noticeably smaller than Willow Bark (she only looks kinda tall here is because she’s sort of reared up). She’s calm and generally soft-spoken, and can very easily have her mate rapped around her hoof with a simple flirtatious look over the shoulder or peck on the cheek. Despite her calm and non-violent nature, she’s very protective of her family, and will show a far more fiery side if something angers her enough, which Willow Bark is both terrified and amused by. Something of a playful soul, she often calls Willow Bark “Barker” or “Willy”.
-Erebos: Eldest son of Willow Bark and the adoptive son to Belle. Erebos is pure-bred moose, so he’s generally bigger than his other two half-siblings, and looks almost exactly like his father except for the dark markings under his eyes and his eye color in general; they’re a very clear liquid green, almost translucent and resembling blue. A mischievous little buck who wants to follow in his father’s footsteps, Erebos often acts as the “Buck of the house” when his father’s out. He’s sort of sassy, a bit pushy, likes to rough-house, and has a knack for being a little smart-ass. But despite it, he’s very much the idol of his younger half-siblings and is protective of both. He calls little Starfire his “Little Firefly” and Blaze “BZ” or “Twinkle Toes”.
-Blaze: The middle child of Willow Bark and Belle, he’s a timid and shy little fellow. His colors are a mix between his mother and father, and his eyes are two different colors; one’s yellow and the other a caramel brown . A gentle soul, he generally tries to avoid conflict if possible. However, he likes to move and has grace akin to his mother’s, the little guy being light on his feet. Because he seems to dance and prance almost all the time, Erebos playfully calls him “Twinkle Toes”. Despite trying to avoid conflict, he loves to wrestle with his brother, even if he almost always loses unless Erebos allows him to win.
-Starfire: The last of the three, little Starfire is a very young doe fawn. She’s the fluffiest as well, harboring the curly and light coat of her mother, but the blazing yellow eyes of her father. She’s extremely affectionate and a bundle of happy energy, and will hug just about anything that shows her even the tiniest bit of affection back, (her mother often calls her “Her little Lovebug” or “honeybunny”). Starfire follows her older siblings as much as she can, often attempting to mimic them. Because she can’t pronounce Erebos’ name yet, she calls him “big brother Eri” and Blaze “Bak Bak”, if only because she often gets piggy back rides from the shy young buck. Starfire’s kind of clumsy but it does little to stop her from exploring when she becomes curious, which can get her into trouble sometimes.
As always, if you have any questions feel free to ask. .
