Description:

My submission for the ATG prompt “Draw a pony as another species.”

I wanted to find something other than the cats, dogs, mice, etc. ponies so frequently get turned into, so I typed “cute furry animals” into Google and started hunting through the results.

The pink fairy armadillo jumped out at me immediately. It’s the smallest species of armadillo in the world, easily held in one hand. It lives a solitary lifestyle and is very timid. Despite its powerful digging claws, videos on YouTube show folks handling it without fear of injury. The skittish creatures seem much more inclined to bury themselves in the soil at the first opportunity than attempt to fight back against their captor. Attempts to keep them in captivity almost always result in the creatures dying from stress within a few days.

The most striking thing about the species was its coloration: Its fur is naturally white or yellow and it has delicate pink plates running down its back.

A shy little pink and yellow creature that avoids others and hides at the first sign of danger? How could I resist?
