The mare in question (who wishes to remain anonymous for the sake of her reputation) Appeared to be heavily dosed with Tentacula venom. She proved very easy to pump for information, and she had a lot to tell.
According to her, (Who I shall refer to as Pearl), she encountered a Tentacula many, years ago, while the creature was still young. She’d found it while on her way to a nearby quarry after a bout of terrible storms that caused quite a bit of flooding. The Tentacula had been navigating one of these flooded rivers when the waters receded, stranding it in the open. According to Pearl, the creature was hardly bigger than a cat when she came upon it, all soft pink body and utterly defenseless.
Yet, surprisingly, upon sensing Pearl’s arrival, instead of retreating like a normal Tentacula would, the juvenile lunged for her. It jumped onto her chest, and in the ensuing struggle, it managed to get two of its tentacles around her horn.
It was then that Pearl felt her mind falling open, and an alien presence pulling her in. The Tentacula, she realized, was desperate; it was dying, both from starvation and exposure.
What was fascinating about Pearl’s story was that, despite being vulnerable and weak, the young Tentacula immediately associated a pony – something several times its size and of unknown intent – with safety.
Pearl went on to state that eventually she and the Tentacula’s minds melted into a singular existence, neither one nor the other. Their minds and bodies united, Pearl found herself wandering into the forest, to a remote cave far removed from travelers, a place she had in her memories for its wondrous crystal formations and precious gemstones. There, she deposited the Tentacula into a fresh water spring; the end point of a large underground network of rivers. And there the Tentacula stayed.
This had all happened many years ago, but Pearl continued to venture to the Tentacula’s cave. When the creature reached sexual maturity, their liaisons become more than just a few minutes long.
Pearl adds that, at some point, she encountered her own sister locked in the Tentacula’s amorous embrace. She’d already been so far gone that she hadn’t responded to Pearl’s voice. Since then, the two of them have made regular trips to the Tentacula’s cave, sometimes together, sometimes separate.
I couldn’t help but listen to Pearl’s story with rapt attention. It seems so outlandish at time, but I could tell the mare sitting across the table from me was being perfectly honest.
