Description:
Alright, some fun facts about this one.
First off, this is the first ever appearance of Dale’s mom in the Lazy Camp comics, her second ever appearance being in yesterday’s Mother’s Day Special.
Secondly, that there is also first ever draw of Sarge. Before I actually figured out how to draw him. He was designed by one of the other illustrator’s for the Roan RPG book. At the time of this I only saw him as just another random pony in the book and merely took inspiration to draw something in my style. Later Sarge got more properly established to be an actual Lazy Camp character and thus I made sure to stay more true to his original design. Which I like much better by far, than the mess I drew in this.
Thirdly, the reason for the odd framing of this was caused by two reasons. First off, the original Bill Maudlin comic this is based on was drawn parted up although frameless. I was still strictly going by the original frame size I had picked from the start and just worked with that. First afterwards I figured it would probably have looked much better squished together into ONE frame. Which created the frame size I began using specifically for holiday specials.
Fourthly, this kinda started my love for drawing mud and rain in this ink style, I especially loved how the weather effects turned out in this one, just look at that. At the same time I was reaching a point where I went from messy to a much more clean looking style, while still having fun with the style of shading I was doing for these.
