Can I just start this by saying I fricken hate Fluttershy? She's boring, her and her stupid animals. I could make an apocalypse au and she'd STILL be tending to animals. Go suck an egg.

Okay, lemme describe~

This is Magic Swap AU! Pegasi have 'Unicorn' magic, Unicorns have 'Earth' magic, and Earthies have 'Pegasus' magic.

Pegasi cannot achieve true flight, they just can't. So, they glide! Since pegasi have no horn to concentrate their magic, they channel their magic into their wings. They have excellent dexterity and accuracy, and the magic in their wings are transferred to the potions they create. Potions and runes are a pegasi's bread and butter, and a necessary part of their life.

Rainbow Dash uses her magic to create Haste potions, which allow, or should allow her to move faster than normal. Speedy gliding, faster running, vibrating in place when she takes too much. Sure, potion stuff is kinda technical, but she's a pegasus and the skill is in her blood. A drop of eagle's tears here, a pinch of sturgeon scale there, she's got this.

As she cannot control the weather, this AU's Rainbow Dash is a delivery mare. Sure, the packages may be a little worse for wear upon arrival, but she got them there didn't she? Maybe she should attempt an accuracy potion.

A short mane previously burnt, and a missing tooth are a small cost when it comes to her ambitions. Some ponies may think she only has one eye, but it's just squinty because of irritation.

Unicorns are dutiful farmers and grow a great majority of the kingdom's food. They use their horns to plow the earth, then they disperse the seeds by hoof. Their horns are sensitive to temperature, pressure, and electric fields, and hard as steel.

Rarity grows cotton, flax, hemp, and anything else she needs to create her stylish yet sensible farming wear. She focuses on a pony's comfort, creating hats that protect from the sun but aren't itchy, and boots that look fabulous but are perfect for trudging through mud. Getting her horn dirty may be a bit unpleasant but it's worth it when she sees those little green stems peaking up from the dirt.

If only she could find something to add a bit of spice to her outfits...

Earthies, which I need to rename, control the weather! How do they do this without wings or the ability to fly? Dancing! There are rituals that these ponies perform to summon rain, snow, mist, and anything else weather related. When they dance, strange runes float up from the ground, this is how you know it's working! Some dances are complex and require more than one pony to perform them, while others can be performed by a foal.

Applejack specializes in summoning rain that help apples grow, including the wild apple trees she secretly tends to in the Everfree. Clueless as to how farming works, she does her best to nurture the trees but she's starting to feel like she should consult a unicorn. Maybe Rarity, she seems smart.

No pony is bound to their race however, and there are other talents to be had for all ponies.

Pinkamena Diane Pie

She's just a mess. She doesn't bake because she never tried, and her weather dancing only summons cotton candy clouds. Discord's Tooth, that's her disorder. A cursed yellowed canine that can develop in any pony that twists their magic in strange and often upsetting ways.

Pinkie cannot nourish the earth with her rain, or any other weather she tries to summon. Convinced she is doomed to chocolate milk rain rotting in the grass, she's stayed on the quarry with her family. She longs for excitement and thrills but doesn't know how to communicate that. Right now, she spends her days trying to pull her cursed tooth from her skull and attempting to summon even just a drop of water.

Twilight Sparkle is not some farmpony, she's a trained botanist and scholar. Magic plants used for antibiotics, twisty roots that stop a tooth ache, and flowers that cause instant death, she knows them all. She's the student of the princess and that's great and all, but she needs to stop talking to her plants.

A trip to Ponyville may help.
