„You can do it, Stellar Flare!” The mare said to her own reflection in the mirror. Her makeup was running down her cheeks as her eyes were filled up with tears. She levitated a tissue to her face and wiped off the messy eyeliner.
“You’ve been such a horrible mother for all these years. You have to make it up to him, show that you can be better!” She continued, as her hooves shook on the dressing table. She kept shedding tears of regret for all the years her actions lead to Sunburst distancing himself from her. All she ever wanted is for her son to have a better life, not realizing that she was essentially living his own life for him.
“Compose yourself! He’ll be arriving any minute now and he cannot see you in such state!” Unicorn sniffed for one last time, before she reapplied her makeup once again. For a mare in her age, she looked relatively young, which was thanks to her well planned and calm lifestyle. For years she lived a peaceful life in Sire’s Hollow.
She loved her little place in the world. The only thing it lacked, was presence of her Sunburst.
Stella Flare has just finished correcting her tie, when the doorbell rang. She quickly got up and went to answer it. She opened the old, wooden doors and smiled to the pony outside.
“Hi, Mom!” Sunburst said friendly, “I hope I’m not late.” Unicorn Stallion looked slightly different today. His usually messy mane was nicely combed, just like his goatee. His cloak looked freshly ironed and neatly cleaned.
“Oh, of course not, Sunburst!” Mare exclaimed happily, “I’m glad that you decided to spend one of your vacation days to visit me, and you even managed to make yourself look half-presentable! Are you sure you didn’t plan on spending it with another mare?” Mrs. Flare giggled. All her worries were gone in that moment, as if they never were there in the first place. All that mattered right now, was the fact that she was with her son, and that made her genuinely happy.
“Oh, Mom,” Sunburst blushed “I wanted to do this for you, to repay you for all the years I’ve been ignoring you.” He smiled politely, as his mother’s eyes watered once again. She replied him with a warm and soft hug.
“T-thank you, dear” Her voice was a bit shaky. “This really means a lot.” Both unicorns stood like that for a while, embracing each other. The first to break the hug was Stellar Flare. She wiped her eyes, looking at her son and invited him to come inside.
“I’m so glad you could make it,” Mare said, as they both entered the living room. “I have planned so many activities we could do together this weekend!” Stellar Flare was really excited to finally be able to spend some time with the pony she missed so much ever since he left the household.
“Oops” She froze, before turning around to her son while grinning and blushing brightly. “I almost forgot. No more planning anymore~” Whole scene made Sunburst chuckle. He hugged his mother once again, giving her a kiss on the cheek. He knew that the mare didn’t abandon her “organized” life-style completely, but that didn’t mattered. What was important was the fact that she tried her hardest for him.
“Anyway, do you want something to eat?” she stepped into kitchen, while her son went to the table. “I still remember how to make those sandwiches you loved so much as a foal. You still like them, right?” Her voice sounded slightly weary of the fact, that she might have just said something impolite.
“I eat them from time to time, though they aren’t as good as I remember. I was always pretty horrible at cooking,” Sunburst blushed and giggled at the reminder of the past. He sat at the table, which was set with an old, but polished set of silverware. In the middle of it stood a magical Samovar. It was beautifully decorated with nature related motifs. On the top of the machine, there was a blue, magical crystal. It was lit up with a very dim light.
“Wow, Where did you get that? I thought you don’t like ancient things,” Said Sunburst, being visibly curious about the machine.
“Oh, It’s not mine. It actually belongs to Firelight. He asked me to get rid of the rust that gathered on it,” Stellar Flare answered from the kitchen. She picked up the tray with sandwiches and wandered into the room. “He also asked me if I could help him power up that crystal, since without it, it’s as good as a metal bucket.”
“Maybe I could help? Powering up crystals isn’t really a hard thing for anyone with enough experience.” Stallion said, taking out the gem from the Samovar. He put it onto his plate as he started to look it over. “It has a few cracks, here and there, but it should work fine.”
“You could? That’s fantastic!” She set the tray on the table, standing to the side of it “I’d love to see you make magic!” Stellar exclaimed with a visible excitement. She haven’t seen her son perform any spells ever since he left home.
“Alright then, stand back” Sunburst said as he lifted the rock with his magic. It slowly started glowing with more bright blue light, as it visibly started getting more energy. It was glowing brighter and brighter with each second of the magic being used. Stellar lowered her head, to get a better view on the crystal and her son doing magic, as she tried to cover her eyes from light with her hoof. “See? It’s quite….”
KA-BOOM!
Whole room was enveloped in a blue light as the crystal exploded. A sound of cracking glass and falling silverware could be heard as Sunburst covered his eyes from the blast. Once the danger was gone, he opened his eyes and looked around. “M-mom… a-are you…?”
Solar flare was just standing there, dumbfounded as she looked at her dearest son. Her eyes blinked once or twice, as the tears started flooding them. Her ears perked up when she heard her son calling her. She tried to reach out her hoof to touch his cheek. Strangely, it was shaking as if didn’t wanted to allow her to do that. It just stopped mid-way as it kept to twitch. What’s stranger, she could taste the blood flowing into her mouth. It started spilling onto her lip and further down her cheek. There was another line of blood on her face. It was going straight from her forehead, where a beautifully engraved butter knife was plunged up to the hilt.
“I… I….” The mare blinked once more, before she stumbled in place. Once her legs have crossed, she fell onto her side, hey eyes remaining open with her pupils shrunken. Her vision became blurry as the world in front of her started to fade into blackness. The last thing Stellar Flare would hear was a scream. The most terrifying scream she has ever heard in her life. One full of pure terror and sorrow.
“M-MOM!”

I hope you enjoy this pic, as well as the little story I attached to it. It’s another one from the “Mother’s day” collection. (Mother’s month at this point :P)
I may do one more, happy pic before the end of the may. I’d love to hear feedback on my “traditional art” skills tough.
I just can’t get enough of Stellar Flare ^
